Breathwork to Reduce Stress, Sharpen Focus & Boost Performance

Practical breathwork for professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs navigating stress, overwhelm and modern life.

Simple to Learn.
Hard to Live.
Chang with every Breath.

Stress doesn't always look like panic.

Sometimes it looks like poor sleep, irritability, brain fog, overwhelm, difficulty focusing, or feeling permanently switched on.

Breathwork provides practical tools to regulate the nervous system, improve focus, and respond to pressure with greater clarity.

I’m Michael Lowman, a certified breathwork practitioner, yoga teacher, sailor and admitted attorney based in Cape Town. Breath of Chang was born from a journey that started on a surfboard, deepened in Arugam Bay, found its turning point in a breathwork class in Miami, and ultimately brought me back to the country of my birth with a clear purpose: helping people regulate their nervous system through stressful times.

I’ve watched hundreds of people stand over an ice bath white-knuckled and overwhelmed, repeating, “I can’t do it.” And I’ve watched those same people step out the other side calmer, clearer, and more alive than when they went in.

What makes the ice bath powerful is not the cold itself. It’s what the cold reveals. The stress, resistance, racing thoughts, panic, and self-doubt are the same patterns many of us experience in everyday life through work pressure, financial stress, relationship challenges, parenting, and the constant demands of modern living.

The Breath is the Bridge

When you learn to regulate yourself in the intensity of an ice bath, you begin to recognise that the same tools can be applied everywhere else. In the meeting that overwhelms you. In the sleepless nights. In the moments where life feels too heavy or too fast.

Most people are already carrying stress in their nervous system; they’ve just never been taught how to work with it consciously.

Breathwork offers a practical way back to regulation, awareness, and resilience. Rooted in the yogic practice of pranayama, these techniques are not reserved for monks or mystics, but accessible to anyone looking for practical tools to manage stress, improve focus, regulate emotions, and navigate modern life with greater clarity and balance.

It’s about giving people tools they can actually use to calm the nervous system, improve focus, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with themselves in a grounded and accessible way.

Your breath influences your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

When you learn how to work with it intentionally, you begin to realise how beneficial these practices can be for your overall well-being.

This is what Breath of Chang is built around.

Why Breathwork Changes Everything

Most of us breathe our entire lives without ever doing it consciously. And yet the breath is the only part of the autonomic nervous system we can directly influence, the most immediate gateway to changing how we think, feel, and perform.

Breathwork changes everything because it brings us back into the present moment. It creates space between reaction and response. In that space, we begin to observe what is happening in the mind and body, recognise the external stress that triggered it, and consciously use the breath to regulate our state before responding.

Through the breath, we regulate the stress response itself. We influence cortisol levels, activate the parasympathetic nervous system, and shift the body from survival mode into a state of clarity, focus, and recovery. This affects far more than stress alone.

Breathwork directly impacts energy production within the body through oxygen utilization and ATP production at the cellular level. The breath influences digestion, cardiovascular function, immune resilience, sleep quality, emotional regulation, and cognitive performance. For those living with anxiety, depression, or PTSD, this matters deeply.

Breath-based regulation helps discharge stored stress and trauma from the body, not by revisiting the story, but by working directly with the physiology beneath it. The nervous system doesn't distinguish between a memory and a present threat.

The breath gives us a way to intervene at the source. The gut feels it too. The vagus nerve, the primary communication highway between brain and body, is directly stimulated through breathwork.

For people managing IBS, chronic digestive discomfort, or stress-related physical symptoms, regulating the nervous system through breath often brings relief that nothing else has reached.

It touches every part of human existence because every system in the body depends on breath. Cardiovascular function, immune resilience, chronic pain, sleep, addiction recovery, cognitive performance, even those who appear to master deeper physiological responses are, at their core, working through the breath.

With practice, we move from reactive to responsive. From scattered to present. From unconscious patterns to deliberate awareness. Over time, we begin to recognise patterns within ourselves, how we relate to pressure, discomfort, conflict, and uncertainty, and through awareness, we gain the ability to meet those moments differently.

This is not incense and candles. This is physiology. This is nervous system regulation. And it works.
